New Data Import Features, Itinerary Enhancements, and More!

Hello everyone, and welcome to another weekly product update here at Tern!

We’re thrilled to share some big news with you, including two major data import features that we know will make a big difference for your workflow—whether you're managing your own contacts or overseeing an entire agency. Let’s dive in!

New Data Import Features

At Tern, we’re always looking for ways to help you centralize your information more easily and streamline your day-to-day tasks. With that in mind, we’re introducing two powerful new data import features:

1. Trip Imports for Contacts

First up, you can now import historical trips directly to your contacts in Tern. We know many of you have been asking for a way to better organize your client data, especially trips that might have been booked years ago on other platforms. This new feature allows you to seamlessly upload past trips to each of your clients’ profiles, making it easier to track their travel history and plan future itineraries.

Here’s how it works:

  • Head over to your Contacts tab, where you’ll see the familiar "Import Contacts" button.
  • From there, you'll now find an option to import historical trips.
  • Follow the simple steps to upload your file, review the data, and once it's processed, you’ll be able to see all past trips reflected under each contact's profile. You can also edit these trips or re-upload the file if you need to make changes.

2. Agency-Wide Historical Booking Imports

The second big addition is for agency owners and administrators using Tern. You can now import historical bookings across your entire agency, which is a game-changer for reporting and commission reconciliation.

Imagine you’ve been working with another platform for the last five years, and you want to bring all those bookings into Tern without losing any valuable data. This feature allows you to do just that! Whether it's for active commission tracking or reporting purposes, you can now ensure all your agency’s historical bookings are in one place.

Once imported, these bookings function just like any other booking in Tern:

  • Commission reconciliation: You’ll be able to log supplier payments and manage payouts as usual.
  • Reporting: All data from imported bookings is seamlessly integrated into your reporting dashboards.
  • Agent access: Agents who already have Tern accounts will be able to see their imported bookings, and all booking statuses will be visible in their reports.

Make sure to check out the Help Center article for detailed documentation before importing, as there are several data points you can include (but not all are required). And remember, our support team is always here to help if you need assistance!

Other Key Updates

Confirmation number column on agent payouts

We know how important it is to have all the information you need when processing agent payouts. That’s why we’ve added a new confirmation number column to the Agent Payouts table. Now you can quickly reference booking details at a glance and export that information via CSV. 

Info blocks Now Support Media and Documents

Our ever-vigilant Tern community noticed this one as soon as it was released (shout out to our Facebook group!). You can now add structured media and documents to your Info blocks in itineraries, a top request from users. 

Improved Hotel Data Syncing with Giata

We’ve also made a few improvements to the way Tern integrates hotel data from Giata, increasing both the stability and clarity of imported hotel descriptions. This is a quality-of-life update, making sure everything is well-organized and easy to read. You can still adjust these descriptions as needed, but now everything comes in a little more polished right from the start.

Form Security Enhancements

To keep your clients’ data safe, we’ve made some security improvements to the way form links are shared. We noticed sometimes advisors were grabbing the url to a form’s response when sharing, which could sometimes pre-load partially filled out data. Now we clear that data out, unless it's shared with the same user who was filling out the form (on the same device/browser).

Referral Bonus Update: Double Rewards Through October 15th!

Last but certainly not least, we’re doubling the referral bonus until October 15th! 🎉 For the next week, you’ll receive $20 (instead of $10) for every new user you refer to Tern—and they’ll get $20, too. It’s a win-win! So, if you know anyone who could benefit from Tern, now’s the perfect time to spread the word.
