New Pre-Travel Itinerary Day and more!

Hey everyone! This week, we’re introducing a much-requested update: the ability to set up a pre-travel itinerary day for your clients. This feature has been one of the most popular requests, and I can’t wait to walk you through it! 🙌

But before we dive into the details, we’ve also made a few quality-of-life improvements that should make your day-to-day experience in Tern a little bit smoother. So, let’s get right into it.

Enhanced Table Layouts: Cleaner, Smoother, and More Efficient

We know how important it is to manage bookings, tasks, and templates efficiently. So, we’ve made some improvements to the way tables are displayed across Tern.

  • Cleaner Look & Feel: We’ve refreshed the design of some of our core tables, giving them a more polished and user-friendly appearance. This isn’t applied to every table just yet, but you'll notice the improvement on many of them.
  • Increased Results: Previously, our tables would show 10 results by default. We’ve bumped this up to 20—saving you time and extra clicks when managing bookings or accessing templates in your library.

These tweaks are all about making your experience smoother and more efficient, with small changes that have a big impact on your workflow.

The Big Update: Pre-Travel Itinerary Day

Now, onto the main event: a new pre-travel itinerary day!

We’ve heard your feedback—this feature racked up over 300 votes across two requests in our feedback tool. You asked for it, and we listened. 🎉

This new addition lets you set up a special itinerary section for activities, recommendations, and important info that isn’t tied to a specific date. Think of it as a "Day 0" for your clients, perfect for including things like:

  • Activity options your clients might want to consider
  • Know-before-you-go checklists to ensure they're prepared
  • Important documents or media, like PDFs or links to essential information

How It Works:

  • Automatic Setup: Every trip will now have a “Trip Details” or “Pre-Travel Day” section right before Day 1 on the itinerary.
  • Customizable: If you don’t customize this section, your clients won’t see any changes—it stays hidden. But, you can easily add a custom header, drag in activities, and include info blocks just like you do for regular itinerary days.

Your clients will be able to see this new section on web, mobile and on the PDF download of their itinerary. It’s the perfect way to offer them extra guidance and suggestions before their trip even starts! Learn more in our help center article.

A Quick Note: Upcoming Email & Calendar Updates

Finally, a heads-up on a behind-the-scenes project. Our engineering team is working on a mandatory upgrade to the tool that powers our email and calendar integrations. For most of you, this won’t cause any disruptions, but we’re excited about some future performance and design improvements.

For users who sync their Tern account with Microsoft, you’ll be asked to re-authenticate when this update rolls out. But don’t worry - you will not experience any disruption of service before re-authenticating. We don’t have an exact timeline yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
